How to track baby feeds: nursing, bottles and solids
Feeding is the record most parents keep first. The aim is a history you can read quickly: when, what kind of feed, and how much, when that applies.
What to record for each feed
- Time the feed started, and how long it lasted for nursing.
- Which side you started on for breastfeeding, so you can alternate.
- Amount for bottles, in the unit you use (ml or oz).
- Solids: what was offered, and any note you want to remember.
Nursing, bottles and combination feeds
Keep all feed types in one history rather than one list per type. When a day mixes nursing and bottles, a single timeline shows the whole day at once.
Pumping
If you pump, record the time, duration and amount so you can see supply across the day without a separate notebook.
An example (invented data)
06:50 nursing, left, 14 min. 09:40 bottle, 120 ml. 12:15 solids, mashed banana. 15:30 nursing, right, 11 min. Each line takes a few seconds to write down.
Doing it in Nurtali
- Use the left and right nursing timers.
- Log bottles with an amount and solids with a short note.
- Add pumping sessions with duration and amount.
- Review history, and share the timeline with another caregiver.
